I’m writing this introductory piece the evening before so I can jump straight into a liveblog at 5:30am tomorrow. Ahem. As everyone on the planet knows, tomorrow HRH Prince Harry of Wales will marry Ms. Meghan Markle and beyond it being a royal wedding, it is a major first for the royal family. The sixth in line to the throne is marrying a biracial, older, American, divorced, actress. The last time a royal wanted to marry a divorced American he had to abdicate the throne (don’t feel too bad for Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson though, 1) they were nazis and 2) lived in extreme luxury after being exiled to Paris). Yes, Meghan is giving up her American citizenship and acting career, but all those personal qualifiers are still momentous.
Here are photos of the happy couple taken a couple of hours ago. Meghan’s wearing a navy Rouland Mouret dress that I presume is already sold out and Harry’s in a light-colored suit that he’s accessorized with a thumbs up. Magnificent.
I have nothing better to do with my life so I’ve spent the last six months since the announcement of their engagement following every wedding detail, and when possible, every vendor on Instagram. The flowers were done by Philippa Craddock and the couple have chosen a lemon-elderflower cake by Violet bakery owner Claire Ptak. Obviously, the designer of THE DRESS is still a secret, but Meghan’s mom Doria Ragland was seen leaving her home in L.A. with a Burberry garment bag. I think that takes Burberry out of the running, I doubt Meghan and her mom will wear the same designer, but! they could be trying to throw us off the scent. In approximately 8 hours we shall know for sure.
My official predictions for the dress, made at 10pm the night before, are as follows: it will be a sleek overall design (so no princess/cupcake skirt), it will cover her shoulders but not be full on sleeves, the lace on her sister-in-law-to-be Kate’s iconic dress had a lot of personal imagery in it and I wouldn’t be surprised if something similar was done for Meghan, but maybe this time in beading. I think she’ll have a dramatic veil instead of a long train that will compliment whatever tiara the Queen loans her for the day. There was talk that Meghan will wear the same tiara, The Cartier Halo Scroll Tiara, that Kate did but I doubt it.

She might pull out the Spencer Tiara as a nod to her late Mother-in-law Princess Diana, but like Kate, I bet she won’t wear it. It’s too associated with that wedding. Also yes you caught me. This interlude was really just an excuse to post pictures of tiaras. Shiny!

Other predictions for the big day: Harry will wear his army uniform and will have shaved for the occasion. Now not only does Meghan walk back down the aisle a married woman, she also gets a title. Kate became the Duchess of Cambridge and I really think the Queen will make Meghan Duchess of Sussex (although there is chatter about Connaught). The bridesmaids and groomsmen are all children, including of course Prince George and Princess Charlotte, and I predict they will look cute and that their parents will have read them the riot act about their behavior. William is Harry’s best man, he’ll probably wear his red army uniform, and there is no maid of honor. Kate had a baby just 26 days ago, so presumably she’ll put on a comfortable dress and a fascinator and call it a day fashion wise. The Queen will wear a brightly colored suit because that’s her thing. Let’s see how many of these I get right!

In case you for one moment doubted my enthusiasm for this event after reading that diatribe, I also bought this mug from Etsy shop CircaWe.
Pip pip cheerio! Until tomorrow!
